Discoveries: Attenborough
A new television series is set to shed some light on the wide range of aquatic life living in Britain’s public swimming pools.
The 12-part BBC show, provisionally entitled Life at the Deep End, will be presented by national broadcasting treasure Sir David Attenborough and is set to be transmitted at some point in advance of the London Olympics.
Both the Natural History Museum and the Open University will be closely involved in the production, helping to ensure that all new species are carefully and accurately recorded.
‘Beneath the hair, dirt, plasters, grit, feminine hygiene products, used condoms, fossilised excrement and disused shopping trolleys there really is an absolute abundance of exciting creatures just waiting to be discovered.’ said Attenborough, announcing the start of principal photography.
The precise areas to be visited during filming of the series have yet to be confirmed. However, having only previously filmed in locations such as the Galapagos Islands and Antarctica, Sir David is sure to be particularly excited by the thought of travelling to Crystal Palace.
Colin Brown, Director London Swimming and an expert in taxonomy, unfortunately had no comment to make.
