Angry: Master
A number of swimmers at the British Gas ASA Masters and Senior Age Group Championships have angrily suggested that event organisers are directly responsible for their poor performances.
Pre-emptive explanations for slow swimming had been circulating since the draft programme was first published. However, the discontent publicly boiled over after the fourth session in Sheffield when it became clear the order of races had not been tailored to suit certain individuals.
One masters swimmer, who would have asked to remain anonymous, said ‘It’s just a ridiculous situation. Everybody, and I mean literally everybody, knows I like to swim in both the 200 free and the 50 free. By putting them in the same session the organisers are deliberately attacking me.’
The unnamed source then added ‘Even if I had shaved down or tapered or lost some weight or actually attended training regularly it would have all been for nothing! I am disgusted.’
A spokesperson for the Amateur Swimming Association of Swimming Federations of Great British Swimming (ASASFGBS) told The Wobbly Block that ‘There is a pasta party on the Saturday. It will be a lot of fun.’
